MEMODULE
MEMODULE is for the kind of note you write while taking a call or before you forget. Jot it down now. Edit it, file it by category, or set a date alert later.
Writing a new memo
- Open MEMODULE and start typing straight into the editor at the top left
- Type a title and press Enter (or Tab) — the body field opens below and the cursor moves into it
- The body grows by itself as you write
- Press the generate button on the right to save it as a card in the list below
- The editor clears itself, ready for the next memo
Notes
- A memo with both title and body empty cannot be saved
- The creation time is recorded the moment you type the first character
- The editor has square corners; saved cards have rounded ones. That is how you tell "where you write" from "what you made"
Drafts are kept for you
Whatever you are typing is saved as a draft automatically. Close the page or reload it — when you come back, your unfinished memo is still there.
Character count
The bottom right of the editor always shows the total number of characters in the title and body, including line breaks and spaces. Paste any text in to use it as a quick counter.
The four buttons in the editor
- Clear — empties the editor and returns to a new memo
- Copy — copies the title and body together; you'll see "copied" when it's done
- Bell — sets a reminder (see below)
- Generate — saves the memo as a card
Cleared by mistake?
Press Ctrl + Z (Cmd + Z on Mac) right after Clear and your text comes back. Once you type something new, the restore is no longer available.
Opening and closing cards
Saved memos are listed as single lines showing just the title, so the list stays readable as it grows.
- Click a card: it opens to show the date, body and trash icon, and the memo is loaded into the editor at the same time
- Click another card: the previous one closes and the new one opens. Only one card is ever open
- Click the open card again: it closes, and the editor resets to a new memo
In other words, the one open card is always the memo you are editing. You can see it at a glance.
Notes
- The trash icon appears only on an open card. You have to select a memo before you can delete it — a small guard against accidents
- Deleted memos cannot be recovered
- If you open another card without saving your edits, those edits are lost. Save as you go
Created and updated dates
- The list is always ordered by creation date, newest first
- Open a card to see when it was created (e.g. 2026.04.15 14:48)
- Edit and save it, and the last update appears in brackets after the creation date (e.g. 2026.04.15 (2026.04.22))
- Updating never changes the order. Memos stay where you first put them, so you can find them again
Reminders
Give a memo a date, and it will remind you when that day arrives.
- Click the bell icon in the editor or on an open card
- A small calendar opens. Click a date — that's it (there is no time of day)
- To cancel, open the same calendar and press Clear
The colour of the bell tells you the state:
- Grey — no reminder
- Yellow — reminder set
- Red — reminder active
How you are reminded
- On or after the date you set, opening MEMODULE lifts that memo to the top of wherever it lives (the top of the list, or the top of its category) with a red "!" badge
- The badge is visible even when the card is closed
- The reminder keeps showing after the date has passed until you clear the bell or delete the memo
- There are no browser push notifications. Noticing it when you open your desk is enough
Write tomorrow's task tonight and set a reminder for tomorrow: it will be waiting at the top when you open your desk in the morning.
Categories
The right side of the screen is for sorting saved memos by project, by purpose, or however you like.
- Click the "+" divider, type a category name and press Enter (Escape or a click outside cancels)
- Drag and drop memo cards into a category
- Click a category name to rename it in place
- Use the ▲▼ on a category heading to reorder the categories themselves
What you can do by dragging:
- List → into a category
- Category → into another category
- Category → back to the list
- Drop a memo straight onto the "+" divider to create a new category and file it there in one move
Deleting a category does not delete the memos
When you delete a category, the memos inside return to the list on the left. A category is a divider, not a box. (If it contains memos, you'll be asked to confirm.)
On a phone, press and hold
Press and hold a card to lift it, then move it with your finger. A normal swipe scrolls the page as usual.
Search
Type in the search box at the top and the list and categories filter as you type.
- It searches titles and bodies
- Case and character width are ignored
- Separate words with spaces to find memos containing all of them
- Clear it with the × button or Escape
- Drag and drop is disabled while searching
Back up your data with Export
Export, at the bottom of the page, saves everything in DESKBIBO — memos, categories, Calduo cards, Dayplot events and all settings — to a single JSON file. Import reads it back, so you can move your data to another browser or another device.
Your data lives only in your browser. While you're keeping something that matters, export it now and then.
For step-by-step instructions, see "Moving your data between a PC and a phone" in What is DESKBIBO?.
